ABOUT THE BOOK

Fifteen years ago, at a huge turning point in my life, a light-bulb moment instructed me to: ‘Revisit your passion for words, string them together and write the book that has been buried within you for years. Your story will inspire others to dig deep, unearth their resilience and determination and move on with their lives, knowing they are not alone in their struggle to survive.’

What began as scribbled notes turned into longer passages, typed with two fingers on the computer. Thoughts, ideas and memories flashed before me and in between full-time work, raising a family and all things associated with life, the words began to morph into proper chapters of my memoir, Survival Without Roots.

Fifteen years on and now a lady of leisure, I ‘got serious’, tap, tapping away each day and the first book in my three-part story began to take shape.

Memory after memory. Chapter after chapter …

In June 2021, I took the plunge and joined  Michael Heppell’s ‘Write That Book’ Masterclass. All reaching for the same star, we have helped each other to believe that achieving our dream of becoming a published author is possible. Finally, all the words came together, and my first book is now available.

Read on to get a feel for the first book in my memoir trilogy.

Survival Without Roots – Memoir of an Adopted Englishwoman

Is there anyone out there who looks like me, talks like me or thinks like me?

This is a question that has plagued Anne’s journey through life as she seeks to unearth the answers. Adopted as a baby in the 1950s, she grows up knowing she is an ‘imperfect fit’ for the ‘Mum’ who raised her. Years of criticism, control and complete withdrawal of love, destroy Anne’s self-esteem and affect her journey through life. Join her as she careers and swerves through the first eighteen years of searching for somewhere to belong. Will she find the resilience to survive her upbringing and the tragedies encountered along the way? Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations … or so they say. A story of fighting against the odds and hanging onto hope, resilience and determination.
